Young people
The Gold Coast community is made up of over 80,600 young people aged 15 to 24 years. The City works closely with private and public high schools and a youth network of more than 200 not-for-profit, voluntary, community and private organisations. We acknowledge the critical role these groups play in the lives of our young people.
Youth resources
From wellbeing advice, safety information and tips to general support, there are a number of resources available.
Junior Council - Civic leadership program
Junior Council is a student leadership and civic program for young people in grades 10 and 11 attending high school within the Gold Coast region.
The two-year program provides students with the opportunity to develop skills in communication, public speaking, leadership and to learn about local government and community issues.
Level Up – Arts Incubator Program
The City's youth arts incubator program, Level Up, aims to engage emerging young artists transitioning from school, work or tertiary studies to a career in the creative industries sector on the Gold Coast.
It will provide a unique opportunity for emerging young artists to take their arts practice to the next level and be a part of the city’s vibrant cultural landscape.
Queensland Youth Week
Held in April each year, Queensland Youth Week is a week-long celebration of young people aged 12 to 25 and the positive contribution they make to our communities.
Youth hubs
After school and school holiday programs operate from various City community centres. The programs incorporate a range of activities designed for young people between the ages of 12 and 17 years, and all activities are free.

School-based education programs
The City provides information, support and visits to schools who want to include Council’s role, work and governance structure into the curriculum. We also run programs to engage and educate young people about Council and to recognise the contribution that young people make to our community.
Gold Coast Youth Plan 2020
The youth plan provides a strategic framework for the delivery of City services to the growing number of young people living in the city. It highlights key City programs, activities and services and outlines key initiatives.
