Currumbin Point - path and carpark upgrade

Road worker holding up a slow sign

Commencing: April 2020
Completion: September 2020
Cost: $1.9 million

Project information

This project will enhance safety, accessibility and active travel infrastructure at Currumbin Point (Currumbin Alley).

Works to widen the foreshore shared path, connect it to ramps and extend the on-road cycle lanes are scheduled to begin in May 2020 and will be completed in September 2020 (weather permitting).

Improvements will also be made to the carpark by adding an additional 10 car parking spaces and two dedicated bus zones.

Redesigning the existing parking bays will also improve the entry and exit of motorists, ease congestion and improve safety for all road users.

Construction details

To minimise impacts to residents, beach goers and road users, this project will be delivered in stages and will take place out of peak visitor and community event timeframes.

Due to current COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, the carpark is currently closed. Once reopened, all efforts will be made to maintain access to as many carparks as possible, whilst maintaining a safe work zone for construction teams. Signage and traffic control will be in place to guide pedestrians and motorists.

There may be some temporary traffic delays, noise and dust at times. We encourage all road users to take extra care when workers are in the area and observe traffic signs and speed restrictions. We will do our best to minimise disruptions, and we thank you in advance for your patience.

Benefits to the community

  • Ten additional carparks.
  • Two dedicated bus zones.
  • Redesigned car parking bays to improve safety and ease congestion.
