Land for Wildlife

Land for Wildlife is a free membership-based program available to landholders with one or more hectares of bushland who are interested in protecting and restoring their property's native habitat. The area of bushland can be intact or disturbed, and landholders can even designate a cleared area to restore to be eligible for the program.

As a Land for Wildlife member, you will have access to:

  • Conservation Officers who can provide:
    • expert knowledge on plant and animal identification
    • advice on weed control and habitat restoration
    • property visits.
  • a property specific management plan that:
    • includes relevant property maps
    • identifies your property’s habitat values and threats, e.g. weeds
    • provides guidance on how to control weeds and restore native bushland.
  • invitations to free workshops (e.g. bushland restoration, native plant identification and nestbox building)
  • a toolkit and herbicides to kick start your restoration project
  • free native plants for suitable bushland restoration projects
  • educational publications including the Gold Coast Landholders Guide, Flora and Fauna Field Guides, the quarterly Land for Wildlife newsletter and technical notes
  • a network of over 430 fellow Land for Wildlife members to share your experiences and learnings.

Land for Wildlife is just one way that we’re working with private landowners to ensure the Gold Coast remains one of the most biodiverse cities in Australia.

In south-east Queensland, the local Land for Wildlife program is fully funded and administered by local governments, including the City of Gold Coast.
