Public place recycling

The City has expanded its Public Place Recycling program into three key visitor destinations on the Gold Coast:

  • Broadbeach,
  • Surfers Paradise, and
  • Southport.

The new bins were funded by a grant received from the Australian Packaging Covenant and the Queensland Government.

The new bins are part of the first stage of a three year proposed roll out of Public Place Recycling in the Gold Coast.

We already provide public place recycling at Paradise Point Parklands, the Botanic Gardens and Broadwater Parklands. This funding will assist the long-awaited extension of the public place recycling program in the lead up to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth GamesTM.

Materials that can be placed in public place recycling bins are:

Botanic Gardens bins
  • aluminium and steel containers
  • cardboard and paper
  • glass containers including all clear, green and brown glass bottles and jars
  • plastic containers and lids.

Plastic bags, plastic wrap, food scraps and packaging contaminated with food leftovers must still be placed in the general waste bin.
