Busking

Update – 17 September 2020

The City has recently undertaken a review of the current busking process. As a result, the City endorsed the following:

  • a single permit to cover all approved busking locations within the city
  • city officers to identify new busking locations and review existing locations
  • a standard permit duration of 12 months (the 12 month period will be effective from the standard licensing period of 1 September to 31 August following or part thereof)
  • a reduction of the busking fee to an annual fee of $50 (an annual permit will be effective from 1 September to 31 August following or part thereof)
  • the opportunity for buskers to advertise and sell goods associated with their performance.

Changes and amendments to busking approvals and conditions will now be progressed to reflect the decision. We will also make amendments to the busking guidelines and these will include any new locations and also possible changes to existing locations.  All changes are to take effect on 1 December 2020.

Existing permits will remain in effect until 30 November 2020 and new permits with existing conditions will continue to be issued with an expiry of 30 November 2020.

To allow for transition from a $34 monthly fee to a $50 annual fee, no fees will be charged until the implementation date of 1 December 2020. This will allow for new conditions, updated locations and implementation of the new fee to take effect on 1 December 2020. The $50 fee will then be applied to all permits. Should you have any enquiries please contact us on 1300 GOLDCOAST (1300 465 326)
