The native submerged aquatic algae Chara fibrosa is a species that grows up to 50 centimetres tall. It grows in waters from a few centimetres to several metres deep and grows year round.
Many small spines grow from a central stem with reproductive organs found near the stem, surrounded by spines. It is found throughout Australia and Asia in clear and turbid waters, permanent or temporary, in stationary and slow flowing waterways.
