The Nerang River Integrated Catchment and Waterway Management Plan was developed in 2006 for the Nerang River Catchment to ensure environmental values identified through community consultation and scientific research are protected and enhanced.
The plan uses environmental priorities outlined in the City of Gold Coast’s Total Management Plan for Catchments and Waterways (GHD, 2003) as a guide to provide a framework for the City to effectively invest in catchment management actions that help achieve the sustainable vision for the catchment.
In consultation with stakeholders, the following vision was developed for the Nerang River catchment:
The Nerang River, its waterways and catchment will be acknowledged by the community as contributing to the quality of life and the economic prosperity of the Gold Coast. The ecological health, water quality, recreational and economic functions of the Nerang catchment will be supported and enhanced. This shall occur through appropriate planning, sustainable development, and resource allocation that is sensitive and responsive to the changing needs of the community and the environment into the future (Parsons Brinckerhoff, 2006).
