Frequently asked questions

What is the crèche and which centres have this service?

Crèche is a short-term child minding facility that caters from children from 12 weeks to six years of age. It is available at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre at Southport and Palm Beach Aquatic Centre.

I visit the centre; can I use the crèche facility?

As long as you are a current centre member, pass holder, pool user or have your child enrolled in an aquatic program, you are able to use the crèche. Crèche is available from Monday to Friday, 8am to 1pm, and Saturdays (at Palm Beach only) from 7.30am to 11.30am.

What do I need to do to use the crèche?

You will need to:

  • read and accept the Terms and Conditions of use
  • complete an Enrolment form
  • pay the crèche fees and charges
  • complete the sign in and out register for each visit
  • advise staff of any special needs or requirements.

How long can my child remain in the crèche?

The maximum session is two hours and a parent/guardian must remain onsite while the child is in crèche. We have a duty of care to ensure carer/children ratios are maintained. If your child’s stay exceeds this duration, a duty manager will notify you to collect your child and an additional session will be charged.

What is the age limit?

We cater for children aged 12 weeks to six years of age. Older children are welcome depending on availability.

Do I need to pre-book the crèche?

Bookings are essential and can be made up to two weeks in advance.

How much is the crèche?

Casual crèche bookings are charged per hour with a maximum stay of two hours. Multi-visit passes are cheaper and available in 10, 25 and 50 one-hour session blocks. See the fees and charges table in the above section for details.

Do you provide food?

The crèche does not provide food. Please provide a drink and healthy snack for your child noting that products containing nuts or eggs are not permitted. Glass containers are also not permitted.

Do the crèche staff change nappies?

Yes, but we don’t provide any toiletries so we ask you provide enough nappies and wipes for the duration of your child’s stay.

Can my child bring their own toys?

We have a wide variety of toys and activities available at crèche. As we take no responsibility for any lost or broken personal toys, it’s recommended they stay at home. This is also a health and safety requirement.

Can my child still attend if they are sick?

To ensure the health and safety of other children using crèche, we are unable to care for children who are unwell.

This includes any child who displays an elevated temperature, diarrhoea or vomiting, body rashes or lesions and nose, ear or eye discharges. If you child becomes unwell while in crèche we will contact you within the centre for their immediate collection. Refer to the Queensland Health guidelines on exclusion periods for infectious conditions (Time Out brochure).

Can staff administer medication?

Crèche staff do not administer any medication and we ask that it not be kept in the children’s bags at the centre. The exception is children on an anaphylaxis or allergy plan signed by their doctor. A copy of this must be provided to staff on enrolment.

Can I bring my child’s pram?

Yes, prams are welcome if this is comforting for your child and if they need a rest.

Can someone else collect my child from crèche?

A parent/guardian must remain onsite at all times while the child is in crèche. If a different person is collecting the child from crèche, you will need to complete a Child Collection Authorisation form on arrival. The authorised person collecting the child will need to show photographic ID upon collection.

What happens if I’m late to collect my child?

If you are late to collect your child from the allocated crèche session an additional session will be charged at centre reception. Late collections can impact on carer/child ratios which are in place to protect the children in care.

What happens if I need to cancel or my booking?

Cancellations can be made 24 hours prior to the booking and no fee will apply. Bookings cancelled within 24 hours or booking no-shows will incur the full fee which must be paid, or an additional key tag swipe processed, on your next visit.

What happens if my child is disruptive while at crèche?

Staff will respond through redirection of inappropriate actions and positive reinforcement of desirable behaviour. If a child does not respond to redirection of behaviour, staff will gently take the child to the side of the group to settle the child and use the time to reflect. Staff will inform the parent/guardian of any behavioural issues while at crèche.

What happens if there is an emergency at the centre?

In the case of an emergency where the venue must be evacuated, the staff will be responsible for leading your child to the assembly point. Do not go back to the area where your child’s lesson was taking place. By following staff instructions, you will re-join your child at the assembly point.

At Palm Beach Aquatic Centre there is three hours free parking available. At Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, metered parking is available, with limited free parking available to certain centre memberships in accordance with the City’s approved fees and charges.
