Park alert

Due to planned upgrades to the M1, pedestrian access to Elanora Wetlands Reserve will be closed from 22 June 2020 until 31 October 2020 while some preliminary works are being undertaken. These closures will also be extended to include the construction phase with further closure updates to be provided. You can find out more information about the project via the Department of Transport and Main Roads website.

Elanora Wetlands is a 20-hectare reserve that borders along the upper estuarine reaches of Tallebudgera Creek. It also forms part of the Burleigh to Springbrook wildlife corridor linking this urban remnant to the hinterland and is a valuable refuge for native flora and fauna.

The area is home to over 60 different species of birds, with other animals such as native sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps) and common tree snakes (Dendrelaphis punctulastus) being seen on regular occasions. A butterfly-friendly garden has been established within the wetlands area and can be seen by walking along the trail, with some interpretive signage along the way.

You can walk through the reserve along a trail which is a return circuit of 2.5 kilometres.

The reserve is managed primarily for conservation and is yours to enjoy for bushwalking, bird watching and getting back to nature.
